Oats & Apple Treats

These easy homemade treats are made with just a few pantry staples and no artificial additives. Ground oats provide gentle fiber, unsweetened applesauce adds natural sweetness, and a small amount of coconut oil helps bind everything together. A touch of flour gives the dough structure without making the treats heavy.

This recipe is intentionally simple and designed for occasional treating, not daily feeding. Every pet is different, so portion size and frequency matter—especially for pets with sensitivities or weight concerns.

As with any homemade treat, introduce slowly and consult your veterinarian if your pet has known allergies or dietary restrictions.

Oats & Apple Dog Treats

My dogs love these.
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Old Fashioned Oats
  • 1 cup Applesauce Unsweetened
  • 3 tbsp Coconut Oil (melted)
  • 1/4 cup All Purpose Flour

Equipment

  • Food Processor
  • Large Baking Sheet
  • Rolling Pin
  • Parchment Paper

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Put the oats into a food processor and blend into a fine powder. Add the applesauce and coconut oil and blend again. Add the flour to form the dough ball.
  3. Remove from the food processor and roll out on a lightly floured surface until the dough is about 1/4 inch thick or roll out on the parchment paper. I roll the dough on the parchment paper because it has ruler markings which make it easier to measure and cut.
  4. I use a pizza cutter to make small squares because I have small dogs, but for bigger dogs you could use cookie cutters too.
  5. Put the treats on the baking sheet and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until lightly browned.
  6. Let cool before giving to your pup. Store at room temperature for up to 1 week, in the fridge up to 2 weeks or even in the freezer. But honestly, my two pups go through a batch in a week.
